Frequently Asked Questions

How do I restore my purchases?

Open the app and go to Settings (tab at bottom) and tap "Restore Purchases". Your premium subscription will be restored automatically if you're using the same Apple ID that made the original purchase.

Is my data synced across devices?

Cross-device sync requires two things: (1) Sign in with Apple, Google, or email, and (2) Have an active premium subscription. Premium users get automatic cloud sync of reading progress, bookmarks, notes, and reading statistics. Free users can still use all features—data is saved locally on your device.

Can I use the app offline?

Yes, OpenAyah is designed to work fully offline. The complete Quran text (Uthmani & Indopak scripts), English translation, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, and search are bundled with the app. Only audio recitation (streamed) and cloud sync require internet.

How do I change the translation language?

Go to Settings → Language. English is included by default. You can download additional language packs (like Urdu) and switch between them anytime. Each pack includes verse translations, word-by-word meanings, and tafsir commentary.

How do I change the reciter?

Currently OpenAyah features Mishary Rashid Alafasy for Arabic recitation. You can also enable Translation Recitation in Settings—when turned on, English audio (Ibrahim Walk) plays after each Arabic verse. This option is only available when English is your selected language.

How does reading progress tracking work?

OpenAyah tracks every verse you read with a detailed statistics dashboard showing daily verses, 7-day totals, and reading streaks. In Settings, you can toggle Read Check: when ON, verses count only after you've read them for a minimum time; when OFF, verses count immediately as you swipe through them.

Can I add notes to my bookmarks?

Yes! When you bookmark a verse, you can attach a personal note to it. All your bookmarks with notes are accessible from the Saved tab. Notes sync to the cloud for premium users.

Does search require internet?

No. Search works completely offline using advanced full-text search technology. You can search across the entire Quran, all translations, and Tafsir without internet. The search also understands Islamic terminology—searching "salah" will also find results for "prayer" and "worship".

Do I need to create an account?

No, accounts are optional. You can use OpenAyah fully without signing in—all your data saves locally on your device. Signing in (with Apple, Google, or email) is only needed if you want to sync your data across multiple devices with a premium subscription.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not within our app. Go to iPhone Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → OpenAyah to view, modify, or cancel your subscription. You'll retain premium access until the end of your current billing period.

What happens if I sign out?

Signing out clears your goals, badges, quiz history, browse progress, and achievements from this device. Your reading progress, bookmarks, and daily reading records remain saved locally on your device. If you're a premium user with cloud sync, your data is also preserved in the cloud and will restore automatically when you sign back in with the same account.

How do I reset my reading progress?

Go to Settings and tap Reset Progress. You'll find three options: "Restart from Al-Fatiha" (moves your position to Surah 1 but keeps Khatm progress, streaks, and bookmarks), "Clear Reading Statistics" (resets position, Khatm progress, streaks, and focuses but keeps bookmarks and badges), or "Delete All Data" (erases everything).
